How this percentage calculator works
A percent is “per hundred”. 15% of 80 is 15 hundredths of 80, which is 12. The three everyday jobs are: take a part of a number, ask what percent one number is of another, and measure how much something rose or fell.
Discount calculator
A discount is just a percentage off a price. 25% off 80 means you save 20 and pay 60. Sale stickers sometimes stack — this tool does one reduction at a time, which is how most till receipts work.
Tip calculator
A tip calculator starts from the bill, then adds a percentage — often 10–12% in the UK, 15–20% in the US — and can split the total between people. Service charges already on the bill are not the same as a tip; check the receipt so you do not double up.
