Which format to pick
WebP is what browsers and chat apps often save. PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency — that is the usual WebP to PNG pick for screenshots and graphics. JPG is the everyday photo file, and the usual WebP to JPG pick when you want a smaller picture that will open everywhere. AVIF appears if this browser can write it. BMP is an old uncompressed bitmap, useful only when something still asks for it.
Resize and compress
Keep the original pixels, cap the longest edge (handy for email and the web), or type a custom width and height. Open advanced options for a quality slider on JPG, WebP, and AVIF. PNG stays lossless; a smaller PNG usually means fewer pixels, not a lower quality number. Re-saving a JPG always re-encodes it, so a second pass can look a little softer.
What this page will not open
iPhone HEIC, TIFF, and camera RAW need another app first. Animated GIFs become a still of the first frame. SVG is rasterised — it will not stay a vector. Very large photos can run this tab out of memory. Metadata such as GPS and camera notes is not copied into the new file.
